Press Release: First full fledged Islamic Bank in Tajikistan


Kuala Lumpur, September 20, 2019 – The first full-fledged Islamic bank in Tajikistan, OJSC Tawhidbank, was established and licensed under the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in September 2019.

The Management of the Tawhidbank would like to express their gratitude to the National Bank of Tajikistan for granting them a license to be the first full-fledged Islamic bank in the country. The bank’s management would also like to express their gratitude to the bank’s partners, such as the Islamic Corporation for the Development of the Private Sector (ICD), International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA), International Turnkey Systems Group (ITS), AlHuda Centre of Islamic Banking and Economics (CIBE) and other partners for the tremendous support given towards the establishment and licensing of the bank.

The management of Tawhidbank is committed to continuing the development processes towards adapting and improving relationships in engagements with clients, partners and investors.

OJSC “Tawhidbank” was renamed OJSC “Sohibkorbank” in July 2019. Sohibkorbank was established on August 24, 1999, as a Joint-Stock Commercial Bank for the Promotion and Support of Entrepreneurship. On May 22, 2002, it was reorganised into Open-Joint Stock Company “Sohibkorbank”. The Bank has been an active, reliable and stable participant in the country’s financial services market ever since it was first established, and has achieved significant positive indicators in its activities.
